Ringing in the New Year with Gratitude for my Second Transplant
Every year about this time, I reflect on the year and think about the growth I have accomplished and what to look forward to in the coming year. It wasn’t until last year that I started to view the year’s events in a positive light. I used to focus on how tough the year was, not really appreciating the good that had happened. Changing one little thing, my perspective, has made all the difference in the world – 2013 has been an amazing year for me!
In January 2013, after three years of dialysis, I received my second kidney transplant from a generous organ donor. My gift of life not only gave me energy, it gave me the ability to spend more quality time with my family and also helped me re-enter the work force. Every year I take my son and daughter on a camping trip with a friend and his two children and, thanks to my transplant, this year was no exception. This year, the trip was different – because of my new kidney, I was able to go on hikes and do more without having to stop and rest as I did in years past.
2013 was a great year for my family and me, and I am grateful my donor made the choice to donate. I am thankful for those that made the decision to become an organ and tissue donor and I now celebrate my new-found life.
Your decision to say yes to organ donation could help save the life of another father and husband like me. Say yes today by registering at your local BMV agency or by clicking here.
I look forward to what 2014 brings and the new adventures headed my way!
God bless,
Marc Summers
