John B. Mullins IV
A Heart for Our Family
Our second daughter, Avrie, was born completely healthy with no complications. A couple weeks after her first birthday, Avrie spiked a low grade fever. Four days later I took her in to the pediatrician. Upon examination, the doctor sent us for x-rays at Columbus Children's Close to Home. After the x-rays, as we sat in the waiting room, we received a call from our pediatrician at the facility. That was when our world came crashing down.
Celebrating 365 Days of Life with Hearts of all Shapes and Sizes
I want my donor’s family to know that every day when I wake up, I do two things: I thank God for another day to praise Him and ask for the strength to do what He has for me, and I ask Him to comfort my donor family as they go throughout their day.
One Recipient’s Gratitude Shines Bright in the Sky
When Andy Golembiewski was told he would need a heart transplant, he realized his life-saving gift would come from a deceased donor. The call for his transplant came on September 9, 2013, and Andy knew he wanted to do something special to honor his hero, his donor and his or her family.
Shelby Ann Cooper: Our Angel, our Hero
Our daughter, Shelby, was an energetic and outgoing 16-year-old. She was involved in volleyball, basketball, track, 4-H, Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, her friends and her youth group at church. She always had fun no matter what she was doing. Our life changed forever on October 21, 2004.
Ringing in the New Year with Gratitude for my Second Transplant
In January 2013, after three years of dialysis, I received my second kidney transplant from a generous organ donor.
Our Little Boy’s Thanksgiving Wish for a Gift of Life
Sam is my oldest child and he was born September 8, 2004 with his intestines on the outside of his body. He could not eat or drink on his own. Unfortunately, complications from the IV nutrition destroyed his liver. Sam was put on the national waiting list in March 2005 for a liver transplant.
