Telling the story of donation

The atrium in the Lifeline of Ohio office features an ever-changing memorial installation featuring 48 shadowboxes. Nearly two-thirds of the framed tributes highlight individual stories of donors through photos, letters and/or mementos selected by donor families. Each inset box memorializes a donor while outset boxes feature photos of transplant recipients.

The boxes serve as both a memorial and a celebration of the ripple started by each gift given through donation. View our digital shadowboxes below to see a complete gallery of all who have been featured over the years.

Rhonda Major-Mack Blacklick, OH. Rhonda’s husband Rob passed away after waiting for years for a kidney transplant that never arrived. Since that day, Rhonda feels it is her responsibility to talk to her community about organ, eye and tissue donation because African Americans, like her husband, are three times more likely than white Americans to need a kidney transplant.
Avrie Nelms Delaware, OH. Avrie received a new heart when she was just sixteen-months old on September 13, 2010.
Dan Leite Columbus, OH. Dan was given the gift of life in the form of a life-saving heart transplant on Christmas Day 2015.
Afatamah McNair Columbus, OH Afatamah had no idea she was ill until her doctor diagnosed her with liver failure – she was shocked. After only one month of waiting on the national transplant waiting list, she received the call and was given the gift of life on October 6, 2001.
Leslie Pelino Columbus, OH Leslie received a liver transplant on January 6, 2012 just as time was running out. In her words, “Actions speak louder than words” - this is what I have learned throughout life. So, when “Thank You” just isn’t enough, I turn to action. I honor my donor by educating others and bring new life to a treasured memory - I want my donors’ family to know I am grateful.”
Stan Harris Columbus, OH. On July 24, 2012 Stan received the call he spent four years waiting for – a kidney donor had been found! Since his transplant he’s been able to welcome new grandchildren into the world, volunteer for Lifeline of Ohio and travel again
