My Gift of Life
Most people know their heroes and I have several people who have truly been heroes in my life.
First and foremost God, my parents, my wife, my two sons, and the medical staff who have been such a vital part of my life. But there is one person who I don’t even know who is definitely one of my heroes- a stranger who I know only as Thomas.
While we never actually met, we are forever connected because in February of 2001 I received his kidney and pancreas.
After having suffered with diabetes for almost 20 years and being in kidney failure which required dialysis for two years – this transplant was truly my gift of life.
Since my transplant, I have been able to return to the activities I love- playing sports, traveling, spending quality time with my family, and even eating.
I think of my donor family constantly because the gift that I received from them is precious!
