First Islet Cell Transplant Performed at OSU

Congratulations to The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC) Comprehensive Transplant Center on its first pancreatic islet cell transplant in late January. Thanks to the generosity of donors in Lifeline of Ohio’s service area, we were able to partner with OSUMC to provide pancreata for the new transplant option, helping to control patients with type 1 diabetes. Our staff is excited to be a part of such a remarkable and groundbreaking transplant medical advance. The islet cell transplant allows organ donors who may not have been able to donate their pancreas a new option for sharing the Gift of Life.

For more information on the islet cell transplant, read the OSUMC news release.
