Lifeline of Ohio Participating in HRSA Hospital Challenge

By now, most of us have heard the numbers related to organ and tissue donation…more than 110,000 Americans are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, including 3,300 candidates from the state of Ohio.   The solution to this crisis is one in which everyone can play a role, by learning more about the dramatic difference one individual can make through organ and tissue donation.

To combat this urgent situation the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) created the “Workplace Partnership for Life” program which provides a unique opportunity for businesses and organizations to educate their employees or members about the need for donation.

After a highly successful two-year campaign promoting organ and tissue donation on college and university campuses around the nation, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has chosen to focus its efforts on promoting donation in 2011 in the hospital sector, in addition to workplaces and community groups.

Outreach in the hospitals is intended to include medical staff, hospital employees, patients and community members affiliated with its local hospital.  Hospitals will be encouraged to select how they’d like to reach out to their affiliates-whether it is through an education session, a donor designation station, a newsletter article, a flag-raising or another activity.

Lifeline of Ohio, as the local administrator of the “Workplace Partnership For Life” program is pleased to announce its participation in the HRSA 2011 Hospital Challenge.  As a national leader in the “Workplace Partnership For Life” program, Lifeline of Ohio looks forward to continuing its mission to realize every opportunity for donation by involving as many hospital partners as possible in the 2011 Hospital Challenge.

For more information on how your hospital can participate in the 2011 Hospital Challenge please contact Lauren Fitting at 800-525-5667 (Ext. 333) or lfitting@lifelineofohio.org

If you are not a hospital partner but would like to promote the need for donation in your workplace or community group we welcome your participation!  Further information on this program can be found here.
