To say the Dash for Donation Saturday was amazing would be an understatement! It was my 9th event as a Lifeline of Ohio employee, and I was speechless as I scanned the crowd and Sea of Green before the 5K from atop the grassy knoll in downtown Columbus this past weekend.

I could not believe all of the people that surrounded me were gathered for one reason – in support of organ and tissue donation. I saw familiar faces, and meet many new ones too. Everyone was celebrating the precious “Gift of Life” — it was awe-inspiring!

People touched by donation and transplantation wore green t-shirts, creating a Sea of Green at the Dash for Donation.

This year’s event was even more special to me than years past because my husband participated and ran his first 5K; my daughter helped lead the pack in the Kids & Mascot Dash; and my son observed it all from the best seat — his stroller — surely anticipating the day he could lace up too!

On behalf of the Lifeline of Ohio staff, Iā€™d like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated, volunteered, cheered — did anything at all — to help make Saturday’s event our biggest and best ever.

With nearly 3,300 participants — including Honey Bee and 15 of her mascot friends — it was incredible to see the stream of faces take the Donate Life message to the streets.

We’ll be posting pictures to Facebook all week and invite you to send us your pictures to post as well. If you haven’t checked your official time, you can do so at Save the date for next summer’s Dash for Donation — July 14, 2012! Thank you again!
