You may have seen it on the Donate Life Float in the Rose Parade on Monday. A message, covered in flowers and organic materials: “20 Million in 2012.”
Today, Donate Life America, the national organization promoting organ, eye and tissue donation in the United States, announces its bold new “20 Million in 2012” initiative. It’s a challenge to register 20 million new organ and tissue donors this year.
In 2011, the United States hit a long-sought-after milestone of 100 million registered organ and tissue donors. In 2012, organ procurement organizations across the country will work together to drastically increase the number of people registered on state donor registries.
“In 2012 we are making a bold statement about our commitment to save more lives,” says David Fleming, president and CEO of Donate Life America.
“With the majority of individuals in the United States wishing to be organ, eye and tissue donors, the biggest challenge to meeting our goal of 20 million will be getting people to take action and register today as an organ, eye and tissue donor.”
Lifeline of Ohio will participate in many events and projects in the coming year to help register 20 million new organ and tissue donors. You can get involved right now by registering as a donor and encouraging friends and family to make the same choice!
