Chilly mornings, changing leaves, an energy in the air – fall is almost here. It is my favorite time of year in Ohio, not only for the weather, but as an Ohio State alum, I’m anxiously anticipating Buckeye football!

The team has a lot to prove on the field after a tough summer. Ohio has a lot to prove off the field too. We are taking on the ‘team up north’ in the sixth annual Buckeye – Wolverine Challenge for Life, a life-saving competition to register the most new organ and tissue donors before Nov. 24. Last year, Ohio fell short to Michigan by more than 20,000 new registered donors – our first loss in the history of this competition! In this challenge, everyone wins; but who likes losing to Michigan?

If you are an unwavering Buckeye fan, like me, you won’t let a loss diminish your spirit. I’m committed to showing my Buckeye pride by cheering on my favorite team, working to save lives and beating Michigan at the same time!

You can help beat Michigan too by becoming a Buckeye for Life and registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor today. You can also join our “Beat Michigan” Facebook page.

And as you watch the Bucks take on Akron this Saturday, whether from the stands, a lawn chair, or your comfy couch, keep in mind that the 111,000 Americans waiting for a life-saving organ transplant could fill Ohio Stadium and then some. Just one donor has the potential to save eight lives through organ donation and enhance the lives of up to 50 others through tissue donation.

If you are interested in helping us promote the Buckeye-Wolverine Challenge for Life, email sbrown@lifelineofohio.org. We can provide free materials, like posters, social media messaging, newsletter articles and more that you can use in your community or business.

Be a Buckeye for Life, register as an organ and tissue donor TODAY!

We’re looking forward to another (mostly) friendly competition with our neighbors to the south. Don’t expect to see the trophy again for a while, though, Buckeyes…

    GO BLUE!
