We are right in the middle of another successful Live On. Ride On. season!  Volunteers, Andy and Mary Furr, have helped to make this campaign a success and below is their take on a summer of saving lives.

Why do you like working Live On. Ride On. events?

One of the biggest reasons we work the Live On. Ride On. events that we are motorcycle enthusiasts ourselves!  We have always found the events interesting – to see with the wide range of motorcycles that you can see all in one place.

We have also seen the heart of the biker community through their response when a call for help comes in. From the charity rides, to the benefit events, or just a bike night, bikers come from all over to see other bikers and help a fellow biker in need.

How has the response to the campaign been this year?

As always, we have found the biker community to be so in touch with the charity side of humanity.

When it comes to saving or affecting someone’s life it is never a question as to whether or not to be an organ and tissue donor, it is a surprise for them not to be one and many will immediately sign up.

As one person told us, “I can’t take them with me, so why not help someone else.”

Response this year so far has been fantastic. In the past there has been a great response at all of the events we have attended, but this year is we’re looking forward to seeing the numbers of registered donors continue to rise.

Do you ever meet bikers who have been touched by the cause?

We have met so many people that have been affected by organ and tissue donation at these events. Each and every person has been grateful that someone they never knew would say “yes” to be a registered organ and tissue donor and save their lives.

And the people that we have met that had a loved one be a donor, they share an appreciation that their loss has saved someone and that another person can flourish in life because of that gift their loved one gave.
